When different rhythms are being played at the same time, the result can be chaos – or diversity. In the performance and sound works of drummer and artist – and H13 prizewinner 2024 – Katharina Ernst, usually, usually, the latter is the case. (Unless chaos is intended). In the course of our symposium "Performance Besides Itself. Infra- and Parastructures of a Contemporary Liveness" Ernst gave a comprehensive insight into her artistic practice: Katharina Ernst in conversation with Mudam curator Clémentine Proby about notions of time and space in music and the question of what the musical principle of polyrhythm has to do with politics.
