After our excursions to the Guatemala border and Lagos Montebello, we headed to Mexico's largest waterfalls, El Chiflon. It's definitely worth a 2.5-hour drive from San Cristobal should you ever make there. 
We highly recommend this as an overnight stay. The on-site hotel is convenient and affordable just steps away from the river.
