The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed — Jesus Christ
Psalm 2
Let us begin with this simple truth: Jesus Christ is God’s Anointed King.
The nations may resist Him. Rulers may reject Him. People may refuse His authority. But none of this changes the fact that God has established His Son as King.
The Father has given Jesus all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).
Christ reigns now, and He will return.
So this is where we begin: Jesus is Lord, and all authority belongs to Him.
The Authority I Have Is Delegated
If Christ is the supreme King, then I cannot treat whatever authority I have as though it belongs to me.
Whatever position I hold has been entrusted to me by God.
Fathers are entrusted with responsibility for their households. Rulers and governments are entrusted with authority over people. Elders are entrusted with the care of Christ’s church.
I may hold a position, but I do not own the authority that comes with it.
I am a steward, not the master.
And because I am a steward, I will have to answer to the One who gave me that authority.
My Privilege Determines My Responsibility
Luke 12:42–48
Jesus makes this clear in the parable of the faithful and wicked servants.
The master leaves his servants with responsibilities and then goes away. He does not tell them exactly when he will return. But his return is certain.
Jesus gives us this principle:
