It was a relatively quiet February opinion release. There was one opinion released by the Michigan Supreme Court this month, hence only one update to provide you. It has to do with the difference between your local government charging you with a “fee” versus charging you a “tax”. Don’t worry, we’ll get into the difference between a fee and a tax and how you can tell them apart. But this ended up having major ramifications for the City of East Lansing, its citizens and those folks who use either Consumers Energy or the Lansing Board of Water & Light as their electricity provider.
