The belief in one’s invincibility occasionally appears in history, especially among men in the military.
Two examples include Napoleon Bonaparte and George Patton. One would expect (based on the nature of war) that their death would have come by way of enemy bullets.
But Napoleon died of stomach cancer. And Patton was killed in a car accident on his way to hunt pheasant.
Another man who came to believe in his invincibility was Micah Jenkins, whose rise within the ranks of the Confederate Army was nothing short of astonishing.
