The artist, and historian Michael Kluckner joins me again. He recently published a new collection of paintings, his first in nine years, Here & Gone: Artwork of Vancouver & Beyond. It’s features surviving buildings and landscapes of Vancouver and rural British Columbia, as well as ones that haven’t. There is also artwork from his travel sketchbooks, which he’s carried with him throughout the world, evocative, enjoyable depictions of Australia, Mexico, India, Indonesia, and Italy, among other places. I’ll ask him about the forms of his art, as well as what he captures on a regular basis throughout Vancouver. I’ll ask him about the city as he views it, in his years living here compared to today. I’ll ask him about the changing city, and our memory of it. There’s a lot of discussion of how we should build in this city, and it’ll be interesting to get Michael’s view with the remarkable historical view he has. We also note the death this past weekend of Cornelia Oberlander. Michael Kluckner is also the president of the Vancouver Historical Society, and for many years has published award-winning, bestselling books including Vanishing Vancouver, the second version of which he was first on this program with in 2012.
