Michael Vaughan pips 10 other contenders to become the UK’s first Apology of the Year

Listen Later

In a move to make the world forget and forgive the past atrocities conducted by the British monarchy over the centuries, the UK government will be announcing a new yearly apology.  This apology will be made on the day of the summer solstice i.e. June 21st every year.
The Apology of the Year will be a statement that is read out from the front of Buckingham Palace and will be added to the official archives by the official record-keeper of the British monarchy. This statement would not only apologise for unleashing the event/person upon the world and will also include a firm commitment to never let this happen again.
This statement will include official apologies for the colonial rule, plunder of natural resources from the colonies, mass murder, genocide and for anything that the Crown and the British people feel remorseful about. The official statement will be read out by the British Prime Minister on behalf of the Queen and will also be a Bank Holiday in the UK.
Our sources within the inner circles of the British Monarchy have told us that the first-ever Apology of the Year will be issued about former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan. This is in recognition of his consistent displays of senseless banter and Twitter feuds that he picks up with commentators, cricketers and sports fans.
Born in Manchester, Michael Vaughan made his debut for England in November 1999 against South Africa and had played in predominantly Test Cricket moving on to captain the side from 2003. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2009. His crowning glory remains leading England to victory in the 2005 Ashes which was the first time England had won the series in 18 years. He was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for this achievement.
Michael Vaughan has been quite vocal about his opinions on things that happen on the cricket field and outside it as well. Most of the time the argument is silly and it is of the general opinion that it is just out there to see who will latch onto the bait that can keep him in the news for a few more days. Recently he has got into online battles with Shane Warne, Wasim Jaffer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virendra Sehwag and Salman Butt.
According to our sources, it is this quality of his, the ability to stir up controversy and fights at the drop of a hat that propelled him to the top of the list this year. The committee that takes a decision on this Apology felt that it was far more important for the image of the UK to address current mistakes first before reverting to historical situations and people. It is believed that Michael Vaughan and his silly Twitter feuds have more capacity to damage the image of the UK than the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh.
