Michael W. Smith (Provident Label Group / Sony Music Entertainment) was born in Kenova, West Virginia, and raised in a home where music and faith were central to daily life. From an early age, he showed a strong interest in music, learning piano and developing a natural ability to write songs.

As a young man, Smith went through a period of personal struggle and uncertainty. It was during this time that his faith became more real and personal. That transformation would ultimately shape both his life and his music.

What began as a passion for music quickly became a calling to ministry.
