The Box of Joy Campaign“Last year, more than 135,000 Box of Joy gifts were sent to children in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, El Salvador, Haiti, Peru, Honduras and Malawi. These gifts came from generous Catholics who participated by packing Box of Joy gifts in 500 parishes, nearly 200 schools and almost 500 different groups. This year, Cross Catholic Outreach hopes to send donated Box of Joy gifts to children in these same countries.”
Michele Sagarino is the President of Cross Catholic Outreach. She has nearly three decades of experience in nonprofit leadership. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Michele answered the call on her life to begin service for various charitable organizations, including Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Gateway Community Outreach and Food For The Poor. She joined Cross Catholic Outreach in 2004, and she served as vice president for development for 15 years. Through the years, Michele has been an important leader in the organization. Her expertise and heart for service will continue to lead Cross Catholic Outreach forward with wisdom and integrity, allowing the organization and their donors to impact even more lives.

Papal honors bestowed on eight laity for service to the Church in DetroitEight members of the lay faithful were bestowed with papal honors in recognition for their dedication to building up the kingdom of God in southeast Michigan. One of them was our guest today, Dr. Ike McKinnon. He joins us to talk about it.
Isaiah (Ike) McKinnon, Ph.D., is a member of the board of trustees for Sacred Heart Major Seminary, served on the board of Catholic Charities USA, served as Detroit’s police chief and deputy mayor, and taught as an associate professor of education at the University of Detroit Mercy. In reference to his service in the U.S. Air Force, McKinnon was bestowed as a Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great.
