ON EPISODE #27: "A deep dive into the headaches of GM's Active Fuel Management technology. On this episode, AutoTalk producer Phil Tower joins hosts Al Schwinkendorf and co-host John Puhek as they explain the technology and the growing frustration for truck owners with GM's Active Fuel Management. GM's Active Fuel Management (AFM) system is also known as "cylinder deactivation." This technology allows your engine to disable half of the cylinders at lower RPMs, reducing overall fuel use. AFM technology tested well initially but has since created numerous mechanical problems and even more headaches for owners who have taken to the aftermarket to purchase deactivation systems. This episode sorts through the pros and cons of deactivating the technology plus we look at other carmakers that are using similar technology.
