Midafternoon Prayer for the Feast of the Chair of Peter, Apostle, using the Complementary Psalmody
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
Praise to the Lord, the almighty, the king of creation!
Praise to the Lord, who over all things is wondrously reigning;
Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you;
Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore him!
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 Armed with God’s justice and power, let us prove ourselves through patient endurance.
Psalm 129
“They have pressed me hard from my youth,”
They ploughed my back like ploughmen,
Let them be shamed and routed,
With that no reaper fills his arms,
“We bless you in the name of the Lord.”
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm 127
If the Lord does not build the house,
In vain is your earlier rising,
Truly sons are a gift from the Lord,
O the happiness of the man
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm 128
O blessed are those who fear the Lord
By the labor of your hands you shall eat.
Indeed thus shall be blessed
On Israel, peace!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. Armed with God’s justice and power, let us prove ourselves through patient endurance.
READING 2 Peter 1:16-17a
It was not by way of cleverly concocted myths that we taught you about the coming in power of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we were eyewitnesses of his sovereign majesty.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell)
Rejoice and be glad, says the Lord.
CONCLUDING PRAYER
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
ACCLAMATION (only added when praying in community)
Let us praise the Lord.
