Midday Prayer for the Feast of Saint Thomas, Apostle using Current Psalmody
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 Lord, may you be for ever blessed; teach me the ways of holiness.
Psalm 119
How shall the young remain sinless?
I treasure your promise in my heart
With my tongue I have recounted
I will ponder all your precepts
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Lord, may we treasure your commandments as the greatest of all riches; never let us fear that anything will be wanting to us while you are at our side.
Ant. Lord, may you be for ever blessed; teach me the ways of holiness.
Ant. 2 Lord, keep me steadfast in your ways.
Psalm 17
I
Lord, hear a cause that is just,
From you may my judgment come forth.
You search my heart, you visit me by night.
I kept from violence because of your word,
I am here and I call, you will hear me, O God.
Guard me as the apple of your eye.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. Lord, keep me steadfast in your ways.
Ant. 3 Rise up, O Lord, and rescue me.
II
My foes encircle me with deadly intent.
Their eyes are watching to strike me to the ground
Lord, arise, confront them, strike them down!
You give them their fill of your treasures;
As for me, in my justice I shall see your face
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Turn our eyes to see the truth of your judgments, Lord, that, when our spirits are tried by fire, the anticipation of seeing you may make us rejoice in your justice.
Ant. Rise up, O Lord, and rescue me.
READING Acts 5:12a, 14
Through the hands of the apostles, many signs and wonders occurred among the people. Nevertheless more and more believers, men and women in great numbers, were continually added to the Lord.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
The apostles held fast to Christ’s message.
CONCLUDING PRAYER
Grant,
ACCLAMATION (only added when praying in community)
Let us praise the Lord.
