Middle East conflict disrupts major flight routes

The ongoing Middle East conflict is disrupting major international flight routes, with commercial aircraft navigating through areas affected by missile strikes and explosions. Aviation expert Richard Woodward, a former Qantas and military pilot, explains that airlines are rerouting flights around Iran, Israel, Turkey and the Gulf states, adding approximately 30 minutes to journey times and increasing fuel costs. While Foreign Minister Penny Wong has urged Australians to reconsider travel plans, Woodward suggests the conflict may resolve more quickly than the predicted five-month timeframe, as combatants exhaust missile supplies.
