Szamanka (1996), directed by Andrzej Żuławski, is an extremely intense erotic psychological drama about obsession, sexuality, and primitive instinct.

Anthropologist Michał meets a mysterious young student known only as “the Italian.” Their relationship immediately becomes an explosive, obsessive sexual affair, and Michał abandons his conventional life and fiancée to pursue her. At the same time, he becomes fascinated by the discovery of a 3,000-year-old, remarkably preserved shaman's body, whose mysterious death begins to mirror what is happening in Michał's own life.

As Michał becomes increasingly consumed by both the shaman and the Italian, the film blurs sex, violence, spirituality, madness, and cannibalism. The shaman's spirit seems to reveal that he was killed by someone seeking his supernatural power.
