The Mustangs advanced with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory at Point Loma in the Super Region 4 final in San Diego on Saturday afternoon. It was the second extra-time victory for Midwestern State in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. Parker Plaxco, Gabriel Gacovicaj and Dereck Espinal scored for the Mustangs. Espinal scored the game-winner in the eighth minute of overtime, and the "golden goal" propelled Midwestern State into the national semifinals.

Midwestern State faces a fourth opponent that it has not faced before in the tournament as the No. 3-seeded Mustangs tangle with second-seeded Southern New Hampshire on Friday night at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. 

The Penmen have shutout their first three opponents in the tournament and defeated Gannon in the Super Region 1 final, 5-0.

Head coach Jon Trilli had his team primed for its exhibition matchup with Tarleton State, and the Mustangs took a 15-point lead in the second half before the Texans stormed back to defeat their old rivals. The experience of playing a DI opponent has the Mustangs ready for Angelo State, which visits D.L. Ligon Coliseum for the conference opener on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Several individuals are rounding into shape after missing significant time in the preseason. DaCannon Wesley, Charles McClennahan, Jr. and Tehshaundre Cole are formidable forwards for the Mustangs, who are also seeing outstanding guard play form Orlando Horton, Jr. and Terrance Ramirez. 

Jonathan Jackson is the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 13.6 points per game, and McClennahan is the leading rebounder with 7.3 boards per game. Antwan Taylor is dishing out three assists per game, and he is fourth in the conference with a plus-4 assist/turnover ratio.

Midwestern State used a dogged defensive effort to eliminate top-seeded Stanislaus State in the third round of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 victory. Gabriel Gacovicaj scored late in the first half, and Dereck Espinal, who assisted on the first goal, clinched the victory with a goal in the 90th minute. Midwestern State recorded its 13th clean sheet of the season.

The Mustangs defense will be tested again by Point Loma in the Super Region IV Final. The Sea Lions are hosting the Mustangs in San Diego on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. CT. Point Loma has three players that have scored at least 12 goals, and the Sea Lions have outscored the opposition this season, 63-24.

Midwestern State is coping with a rash of injuries which has kept the Mustangs from playing their preferred style of basketball. The team is adapting after Aniyah Williams and Da'Lonna Choice both suffered injuries in the second game of the season at Central Oklahoma. The Mustangs were also without Caelyn Williams in their last game against East Central. In the 59-38 loss to the Tigers, Katy Greathouse was forced to leave the game due to injury.

The shorthanded Mustangs enter conference play this week as Angelo State visits D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Wednesday for a 5:30 matchup, and UT Permian Basin travels to Wichita Falls for a Friday matinee that tips off at 2 p.m.

Midwestern State completed a taxing stretch of three games in five days with a 97-74 victory over Dallas Christian at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Monday night. The Mustangs faced two RMAC opponents in Colorado last week. 

Midwestern State fell to Adams State in a high-scoring contest, 99-91, and Western Colorado upended the Mustangs, 82-78.

MSU will visit on old rival this week. Tarleton State hosts Midwestern State at EECU Center in Stephenville, Texas, on Friday at 4 p.m.

For the third consecutive season Midwestern State is playing in the third round of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. The Mustangs are playing the top-seeded team in Super Region IV, Stanislaus State. Midwestern State advanced with a memorable win over Seattle Pacific as Parker Plaxco scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in overtime. 

Plaxco is one of six Mustangs named to the All-Region team. He is joined by Liam Pritchard, Jaime Villagomez, Alan Rivera, Cooper Tea and Davis Mays.

MSU plays Sunday at 5 p.m. CST at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, California.

Midwestern State opened its season with memorable 97-90 opening-night win over UCCS in Jon Trilli's debut as head coach at MSU. Jonathan Jackson hit 9-of-12 shots from 3-point range on his way to 31 points, and DaCannon Wesley blocked eight shots and grabbed eight rebounds for the Mustangs, who had five players in double figures and shot 53.3 percent from the floor. The following day, CSU-Pueblo held Midwestern State 31 percent shooting and outrebounded the Mustangs, 48-38, en route to a 72-60 victory.

Midwestern State is on the road this week to face two more schools from the RMAC. Thursday night, the Mustangs visit Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado, which is 2-1 to start the season with wins over UT Permian Basin and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Grizzlies suffered a 68-61 loss at Angelo State on Saturday.

The Mustangs will also visit Western Colorado in Gunnison, Colorado, for a Saturday afternoon clash. The Mountaineers will play Cameron on Thursday before facing the Stangs. Western Colorado lost its first two games to Angelo State and UT Permian Basin.

Midwestern State opened the 2025-26 campaign with a resounding 82-33 victory over UNT-Dallas at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Junior guard Ta'Leeyah Glynn, who matriculated at Clarendon, scored 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting in her Midwestern State debut. Kerbie Cash started her sophomore campaign with 12 rebounds and five rebounds against the Trailblazers but was assessed a flagrant 2 foul in the third quarter. Senior guard Veonce Powell, a transfer from Missouri Southern, finished with 10 points and five assists for the Mustangs, who shot 41 percent from the field and outrebounded UNT-Dallas, 45-37.

The Mustangs are on the road Thursday evening for a clash with Central Oklahoma at Hamilton Fieldhouse in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Bronchos opened their season with losses at home to Southwest Minnesota State and St. Cloud State in the Central Region Challenge.
