Migration Strategy Update 23 March 2024

Listen Later

Hey everyone, welcome to the Boomerang International podcast! Today, we've got an exciting update on Australia's Migration Strategy. Here's what's happening:

  1. English Language Boost: English language requirements for student and graduate visas are on the rise, aiming to enhance the education quality for international students and mitigate workplace exploitation. Requirements are increasing from IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 for student visas and from IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 for graduate visas.
  2. Provider Oversight: The government now has the authority to suspend high-risk education providers from recruiting international students. Warning notices will be issued, giving them 6 months to improve or face suspension.
  3. Genuine Student Test: A new test is being introduced to ensure that international students are genuinely coming to Australia to study, not solely to work. This test will assess students' study intentions and economic circumstances.
  4. Visitor Visa Control: Stricter "no further stay" conditions will be imposed on visitor visas to prevent misuse and maintain integrity checks for prospective students.
