In the first 40 minutes of a rollicking 80 minutes of bar conversation with Mike Henriksen from Gibs Sports Bar, the legendary South Dakota broadcaster comes out of the gate like he did when he co-hosted the state's first daily sports talk show from 2001-06.
The Twins had just traded Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros before Mike and Happy Hour host John Gaskins flipped on the mic, part of a historic 48 hour fire sale. So Mike and John channel their daily sports talk days to react.
Then, Mike explains why he doesn't miss doing the daily sports talk thing anymore, nor calling ballgames. He retired from both activities — his bread-and-butter as part of a radio and TV career that included a variety of roles — a few years ago for a couple specific reasons, and the pandemic changed his level of enthusiasm for all things sports.
Part 1 concludes with Mike describing his days as a stand-up comedian and coveted banquet speaker, which includes some rather funny stories, as you'd expect from Mike.
