Joash thrived under the godly guidance of his uncle Jehoiada, repairing the temple and leading Judah well, but after Jehoiada’s death he abandoned the Lord, turned to idols, and ultimately ordered the killing of Jehoiada’s son, bringing God’s judgment upon himself. The story serves as a warning about the dangers of losing spiritual direction and the importance of godly influence, steadfast faith, and overcoming evil with good regardless of one’s background.
