The big local buzz centered on high school sports The Meridian Warriors football team fought hard in state semifinals Saturday night but ultimately fell in a dramatic finish to the Eagle Mustangs final score 28 to 25 Eagle advances to the state championship and Meridian’s season ends but the Warriors can hold their heads high after a tremendous playoff run Over at the gym the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies girls’ volleyball team brought home a district win in three straight sets against Kuna and will head to the state finals at Idaho Central Arena

Weekend events drew big crowds Old Town Meridian was packed for the annual Winter Lights Festival Families enjoyed hot cocoa carriage rides and even a pop-up ice rink right on Main Street The Meridian Library Foundation hosted their winter book fair drawing families and holiday shoppers while at Settlers Park the holiday farmer’s market was buzzing with vendors hawking everything from local honey to hand-knit scarves

As for the slopes at Bogus Basin and Brundage Mountain Resort both ski hills are still waiting for significant snowfall Both resorts reported no fresh snow in the last 24 hours with slopes closed to the public and hoping for storms arriving later this week
