Michael Bulloch on Ken’s Think Tank Season 3, Episode 13
Historic Downtown areas are important. Explain how . . . why are they important to a city overall?
“A healthy downtown is a good indicator of an economically vibrant city. In addition to just being a good indicator, if you have a vibrant historical downtown, that’s the place tourists go. They want that authentic experience with that place. They want to have a connection with that place, and that’s what downtowns afford.”
“Obviously, you need locals to support downtown. But, you also need that vibrancy in town to pull tourism and pull outside dollars into downtown.”
“More and more, particularly with millennials getting a little older, now they have some disposable income. They’re not into malls. They’re not into shopping centers and labels and stuff like that.”
“They’re not like us Generation Xers. ‘I gotta have Polo. It’s Izod Mom, I gotta have it!’ Ha Ha”
“They want that authentic, cool, experience.”
That off-brand experience.
