Mind In The Gutter

It's been over a year since the last episode and the only thing that could bring us back is death itself. Or at least death as an elaborate killing apparatus in Final Destination Bloodlines! The newest entry in a series that takes its time more than we do. Can it live up to the cult following of the previous movies and our high expectations? Only if logging trucks give you the willys... Josh and Christine provide the full breakdown of just how it fits into the series.

This was originally a MIGsy Film Club episode and is being added to the Mind In the Gutter feed to complete our Final Destination coverage. From the original:

Every year around Halloween Josh convinces Christine to watch a couple of spooky movies. This year it was John Carpenter's adaptation of Stephen King's Christine and the original Final Destination. It turns out having the same name as a killer car can make you a fan of it and we may or may not have ended up getting back on the mics after watching all 5 Final Destination movies!

Since we're about halfway through 2024, it's about time to look back on the films of 2023. This is the finale of our annual movie awards as it exists in this form, and we focus more on our personal favorites and underrated films than on choosing winners. So join us as we raise a beer to film and uncover some hidden gems that deserve a watch.

We are back for 2024 and looking to be more consistent in our podcasting (maybe). Since it's dry January, we are trying a non-alcoholic wine called Win. We talk about how 2023 wrapped up and a few movies still on our mind, including Mean Girls the Musical, Salt Burn, and a surprising Hallmark time loop movie called Round and Round. We then look at some movies coming out in the first half of the new year and gauge whether we're excited.

The Indiana Jones series is just another cultural touchstone that Christine missed out on, so Josh takes her through the entire series! We watched from Raiders of the Lost Ark through The Dial of Destiny and decide if the series holds up from someone with fresh eyes and a seasoned fan. Through the journey Christine discovers Harrison Ford was a hunk, Ken Huy Quan always had acting chops, Crystal Skull may not be terrible, and if Dial of Destiny is a good final entry.

The boys are back in town talking about summer movies and virtual worlds. We are getting multiverse fatigue while breaking down if the The Flash is actually any good, if Across The Spider-Verse holds up to the original, if Rise of The Beasts improves The Transformers series, and more! Also, Dan and Josh both went in on the PSVR2 and discuss how the virtual experience has been and which games are highlights. Dan prefers mesh chairs, David needs a new chair, and Josh misses old swivel chairs.

In part 2 of our Fatal Attraction special, Josh and Christine go through the Paramount+ series. We watch in three episode chunks and finish with the final two (all in this episode). We compare the series to the film that inspired it and if we think it's worth a watch. How do Joshua Jackon and Lizzy Caplan compare to Michael Douglas and Glenn Close? How does the change from the 80s to the 2000s affect the story? We'll let you know, this is part two, with the movie being part 1.

In a MIGsy Film Club special, Josh and Christine watch Fatal Attraction for the first time in preparation for the new Paramount+ series. We reflect on if this 80s classic holds up and if we think we could be "fatally attracted." This is part one, with the series being part 2.

We all survived January with limited amounts of alcohol and give our updates from the new year. We then dive into what movies should be nominated for next month's MIGsy Awards! Check out the substack link below for the official list of nominees (though this pod is releasing before the list so give it a couple of days). Dan wants to take his new car off some jumps, Joshua tells us which Disney vacation spot is better, David can handle exactly six tasks at a time, and Josh can't handle any more football.
