One of the hallmarks of independence, particularly as you get older, is holding a drivers license and being able to drive your own car. Getting an older person to give up their wheels can be a lesson in futility, no matter how they need to stop driving.
Getting older doesn't mean you automatically have to give up your independence, but it does mean you may have to take extra precautions compared with someone younger.
