Chapter 12 of The Untethered Soul is titled, taking down the walls. In this chapter Singer explains how our psyche, thoughts and emotions, is similar to a house that we have built to protect ourselves from pain. Since most of our thoughts and emotions are fear based, the mental and emotional structures we build don't protect us, they only trap the pain inside of us. If we want to transend pain we must accept and feel it as it happens and and when it comes up from past traumas, by doing this it passes through us and doesn't get trapped inside.
