Episode takeaway:
In this episode, my mom and I dive into her name, its value, its effects, and the importance of names as a whole. Names heavily impact not only your identity but your racial identity too.
Mom--Monse Santana-Martinez was born in Spanish Harlem/El Barrio in the '80s. Both parents, Americo Manuel Santana/Carmen Chevere, migrated at different times from the Island of Puerto Rico. These are our roots, whats yours :)
"Freeing yourself was one thing, claiming ownership of that freed self was another" -Toni Morrison
Check out one of Carlos's book titled "Spanglibonics" that focuses on the Afro-Nuyorican experience through poetry!
As always, thank you so much for listening. Be the change YOU want to see in the world.
This is not just ONE movement, it is about longevity and changing your reality <3
