Mini Pod 3: Without Sensory Regulation, We Cannot Achieve Emotional Regulation

Listen Later

Today’s mini-pod explores how sensory regulation is the foundation we need to maintain any level of emotional regulation or self-control. If you haven’t listened to the previous mini-pods, it might be worth doing that now, but this one can totally make sense on its own! It’s great for awareness and something everyone can relate to, not just those with sensory processing struggles.

We’ll look at how sensory dysregulation can show up, and what happens when these foundations break down. If your child seems to have ‘untriggered’ meltdowns or emotional outbursts that don’t seem age-appropriate, this is one for you!

We’ll also talk about the difference between tantrums and meltdowns, why some children struggle to sustain emotional regulation, how this leads to impulsivity, and why you shouldn’t address these issues right in the moment.
