Minisode: The Abuja Rent Bill, what is it good for?
On the 18th of January Senator Smart Adeyemi sponsored a bill titled, “Advance Rent for Residential Apartments, Office Spaces, Etc, Regulation Bill 2022”. The bill seeks to make it illegal for any landlord to ask for advance rent payment of more tha three months. This includes landlords of residential and office buildings.
The bill is supposed to make rent, especially in the city center, more affordable but the exact opposite may end up happening.
