NOTES
No one forms their identity in isolation… Our relationships become the mirror that reflects the kind of person we’ll become
Psychology Today “The very nature of the self evolves through relationship.” Gwendolyn Seldman – PH.D
Life <--------- Choices <--------- Identity
Who we are will always determine what we do.
For now we are all children of God through faith in Jesus Christ…There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28
We can miss out on becoming who we want to be when we allow faulty relationships to reflect our identity.
“So, your relationships can change your self-concept, for better or worse.” Psychology Today Seldman – PH.D
Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When he had finished speaking… Luke 5:3-11
He said to Simon, Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish. Master, Simon replied, we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again. Luke 5:3-11
And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. Luke 5:3-11
When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, Oh, Lord, please leave me – I’m such a sinful man. Luke 5:3-11
Jesus replied to Simon, Don’t be afraid ! From now on you’ll be fishing for people! And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. Luke 5:3-11
The Mirror of Others
The Mirror of Self
The Mirror of Jesus
The Mirror of Others – It’s the view of others who can’t see themselves clearly.
The Mirror of Self – It’s our feelings that may be real but not always right.
The Mirror of Jesus – Is the reality of God’s love and the truth that leads to life.
The person we hope to become is helped or hindered by the core relationships we pick to shape our identity.
