Notes:
Sometimes we’re unaware of how the good or bad in life has warped our identity.
Who we are will always determine what we do.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1John 3:1
John the Baptist, who was in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Matthew 11:2-11
And Jesus added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.” Matthew 11:2-11
I tell you the truth, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the least person in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he is! Matthew 11:2-11
The empty tomb of Jesus is a symbol of God’s promise that temporary pain can’t undo God’s permanent blessings.
…a man came running to him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Mark 10:17-22
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.” Mark 10:17-22
“Teacher,” the man replied, I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. Mark 10:17-22
“There is still on thing you haven’t done,” he told him. Mark 10:17-22
“Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Mark 10:17-22
At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Mark 10”17-22
Living the “good life” is more than just how and what we consume.
Jesus gives us the guardrails of purpose and promise so that when good and bad try to derail our identity we don’t end up in a ditch.
Identity Guardrails: Jesus guarantees us a PROMISE and Jesus invites us to a PURPOSE
Jesus gifts us purpose and promise so that pain and pleasure won’t warp our identity.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
