We’re diving into the book of Jude! In this episode, we focus on the way Jude uses a lot of Old Testament and other literature in his letter. Why is he using so many other sources? Jude even quotes from a book called 1st Enoch, which is not in the Old Testament. What do we do with that? Jude is writing against false teachers, warning the church to watch out for people distorting the truth to justify their own disobedience. Each episode will focus on a different tip or strategy for studying and interpreting the Bible. We’ll start with the longest book on this list (Jude at 461 words) and work our way down to the shortest (3 John at 219 words) so we can show you how rich your study of God’s word can be when you dive deep into a short book!

For the fall season of 2021, Matt Winter and Micah Harrison will be leading you through some smaller books of the Bible (Jude, 2nd and 3rd John, Philemon, and Obadiah).

We are in the final chapters of Hebrews where the author is calling these Hebrew Christians to faith and endurance by building on the great cloud of witnesses from Hebrews 11 and reminding them of their God who was faithful to them. In chapter 12, we see the push towards endurance in daily living until the Lord ushers in his completed kingdom someday. In chapter 13, we wrap up with concluding exhortations and remarks for this audience and we hone in on how they apply to us today.

In Chapter 11, we look at the famous “Hall of Faith” in all of its gritty glory. We see models of faithful yet imperfect men and women taking their next right steps of faith often in trying circumstances; all without seeing the end result and only being able to  trust the promise given to them. As New Covenant believers, we get to see the resolution to their faith - we see what was promised - our resurrected Christ.

In chapter 10, the author repeats the importance of Christ’s once for all sacrifice and what that should elicit from us: faith, hope, love, and obedience.

In chapter 9 we see that our great High Priest has offered himself as our better sacrifice which ushers us into the better Tabernacle (Heaven). We have direct access to the throne of God through Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice.
