series: mission
title: Detroit
teacher: Jacob Bender
date: October 28, 2018
scriptures: Galatians 6:9, Ephesians 2:10, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, Genesis 31, Matthew 5:23-24, Matthew 6:5-15, Luke 19:1-10, 1 Corinthians 11:26.
Reconciliation is the ministry that the church has been given. We exist to do that. And it is fascinating when you study the Bible, especially the words and stories of Jesus, how obvious it is that Jesus wants us to see how pointless our religion, our rituals, our sacraments, even our praise and our offerings and our sacrifices are, if we are not doing the job of reconciling with people.
NOTE: in this sermon, I referred to “the meal covenant” and I mis-spoke saying that “the Bible calls it a meal covenant” - when in fact, it is what is “known as a meal covenant” but the Bible does not specifically refer to it using that term.
