It’s quite common for Mississippi College graduates to go on to distinguished careers, but Class of '54 Alumnus Dr. Joseph Hamilton is practically in a class by himself. The Distinguished Professor of Physics at Vanderbilt University received his master's and Ph.D. at Indiana University and became a co-founder of three separate elements on the periodic table. He’s also contributed to over 1200 publications in journals and books and received the Humboldt Prize in Research, as well as the Flerov Prize from the Russian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Hamilton holds eight honorary doctorates from universities throughout the world and continues to work in experimental nuclear physics.
