Housing has been a complex issue for most communities in recent years. The city of Kirksville decided to try something outside the box and work with their local technical school to turn a blighted trailer park into a tiny home subdivision.

Derek Weber is the Executive Director of the Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission (NEMO RPC) located in Memphis, MO.  The Northeast Missouri RPC serves as a Community/Economic Development agency for its member communities within the six Northeast Missouri counties it serves. Derek has facilitated numerous projects resulting in millions of dollars' worth of funding for his member communities. Projects have ranged from transportation, broadband and water/wastewater infrastructure, to workforce, port and housing developments. 

Derek will share some of the ways your community could benefit from the services and guidance of a regional planning commission.

As the Director for Services & Development for the Missouri Public Utilities Alliance, Brandon Renaud is responsible for business planning and project management for new and existing services while forging strong relationships with member utilities and stakeholders. Before coming to MPUA, Brandon served at city of Columbia Utilities (Columbia Water & Light) from 2010-2023, serving the last four years as utility services manager. He also previously worked for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. He has earned an MS  in Environmental Management from Webster University and lives in Columbia with his wife, Rachel, and three daughters.

In this episode of the MML City View Podcast, we welcome Sarah Darknell and Jacob Rohter to discuss the Missouri Brownfields program. Sarah is the outreach coordinator with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup program. She has been with the Department since July of 2024. Before working for the state of Missouri, she was a high school science teacher in rural Missouri. She is passionate about helping communities tackle their Brownfields and protecting our state’s resources for generations to come. 

We also welcome Jacob Rohter. Jacob Rohter is the Assistant Regional Director for the Kansas State University Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program, known as KSUTAB. The TAB program provides expert support to communities working on brownfields redevelopment projects. TAB is funded by the US EPA, so the assistance is free of charge to communities. 

Prior to joining KSUTAB, Jacob spent the previous decade working on brownfields and reservoir infrastructure for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

In today’s MML City View Podcast, we meet with Dave Fults and Chris Burke from the city of St. Peters. David is the Communications and strategy coordinator for the city, where he oversees multimedia communications and has earned several organizational awards for outstanding performance and teamwork. He has worked more than three decades as a professional communicator and has an MBA in marketing from Lindenwood University. He is passionate about personal growth and leadership development.

Chris Burke is the Creative Services and Event Coordinator for the city of St. Peters. He has produced more than 500 episodes of UpFront St. Peters, the City’s weekly newsmagazine show, along with many other City productions.  He has also produced events for the City, ranging from events honoring veterans to multi-day community festivals welcoming more than 30,000 people for a weekend.  Chris is a graduate of Lindenwood University, where he completed his undergraduate degree and an MBA in Marketing.

They are sharing the recruitment success from a LinkedIn campaign and how it has helped boost recruitment and retention for important roles throughout the City.
