We’re discussing a proposal that could alter the earnings of Missouri teens on the job. State Senator Joe Nicola, who represents part of the Kansas City area, has pre-filed a bill that would allow employers to pay workers under 18 less than the state’s minimum wage. Currently, Missouri’s minimum wage is $13.75 per hour and will increase to $15 on January 1st. Nicola says the goal is to help teens keep jobs as businesses face rising labor costs. Show Me Today reporter Matt Pilger spoke with him about why he thinks this change is needed.
