Luke 7:11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. 12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. 14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” 15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.” 17 And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding countryside.
He touched the coffin not the boy…
Some would say Jesus did not touch the dead body because it was against the law and he would make himself unclean… but many times he did do just that when healing others and even touching the lepers.
What he was doing was showing us…
- there is no magic formula if you walk in the supernatural and not the natural.
Fear will rise up in those who do not share your spiritual insight.
You will be misunderstood and you must be willing to be the weird guy.
When you study the great men of faith you realize that many people did not like them.
Even today some of the men of faith we see and know are disliked and misunderstood.
Some characteristics that Jesus had they we may over look.
He was misunderstood
he was disliked
People tried to kill him
He was lied about
He was gossiped about
People got his message wrong
His followers were fickle
Maybe these are the marks of a true disciple more than healing people, or some great ministry… just maybe you are doing it wrong.
