Today is February 5, 2017. Travel back with me to this date in 2002. We’re headed to New York City, to the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, where Allan “Bud” Selig will benignly announce that MLB’s plan to contract two franchises prior to the 2002 season has fallen through. But oh, the tangled web we will weave leading up to this announcement.
