DMV Spotlight shines at light on the Alexandria Police Department’s annual MLK Spirit award for “ Serving Beyond the Badge” at the start of Black History Month.

Recipient Lt. Marcus Downey Jr was awarded the MLK Spirit honor for his volunteer work with Meade Church, Alexandria Community Shelter and Meals on Wheels in Alexandria. Lt. Downey explained the importance of residents seeing officers in uniform serving the community and interactions with the public that are not part of regular police duties.
