Mobile Gaming Future up in the Air

Listen Later

Google, Apple, and Epic are determining the future of mobile app stores. Everyone, welcome back. And I just want to talk about today, the app stores and what's going on between epic, Google, and apple and this kind of future of the app stores. So this podcast will talk about the future, and the future of gaming, and what all that's going to entail. And I think it's really important that we do talk about these things, because what it's going to do is it's going to provide a kind of a perspective of where we're going to be going in the future. And mobile games is entirely important when it comes to trying to figure out what exactly is going to happen from a perspective here, because what we have going on is, we have games, basically being bartered in different app stores. And what this is doing is it's causing an issue, it is causing kind of this issue where Epic Games feels like they should have control of their ability to post in these stores, and take people kind of off the platform or shirt, and then allow them to buy from Epic Games. And so this is kind of turned to a situation where Epic Games is now taking stuff off. But they're getting kind of hit with being taken off the Apple Store. And then Google kind of reacted to that. And they have now taken them off of their store too. which creates kind of this dynamic of what the heck's going to happen to mobile gaming, what's going to happen to the Unreal Engine? Is this going to continue on? Is this something that's going to hinder the development for Epic Games, I do not want to see I don't want to lose the creator of Gears of War and fortnight, to a big legal battle between Apple and Google and what can happen on app stores. And I know they're highly invested. But this was a big investment for Epic Games to create their store, and then offload create an app for fortnight. And then the terms are violated for both Google and Apple Play Store. So epic is sitting here with the owner as the owner of fortnight, and not able to have their app on those stores. So this is going to hit epics bottom line. And the terms of service are really strict. And I think epics been very frustrated, as of late we've seen steam. We've seen that kind of struggle in those areas of where they're trying to go and what they're trying to do. And it kind of creates this entire layer of how can epic make a profit? How can Epic Games break into the game, business, and epic is such a big thing when it comes to transactions. Especially when it comes to fortnight like yo go buy a certain costume. And that's a big thing for epic. And they're not able to kind of control that because it's being diversed out of the Apple and Google stores apple. And Google doesn't like that, because they want their cut a feel. So I don't know where I don't know where this ago, but it's definitely going to end up affecting the future of gaming. And the mobile game platform is a very big part of gaming, it's only going to improve in the future and become even bigger as the technology continues to improve from that micro level that we're currently at right now. And that is an interesting dynamic that we're going to continue to see when it comes to video games and where we're going to go with that. And I hope that this does get worked out that we find a way to kind of come to a common denominator here in regards these app stores. Because it's very important, the creator of Unreal Engine, which supports a wide range of gut games, including pub G, which is a very successful mobile game and Platt, you know, PC game, Xbox game, PlayStation game, it's gonna be interesting. What will happen here and where this will go from this point on because if epic is not able to do this, maybe they pull their entire lineup create their own app store like they did with steam, which I could definitely see I could see something like this happening where they try and divert away from Apple and Google but Apple and Google are going to do it.
