Mockers And Mourners - One Week To Live, Part 4

Listen Later

Only those who follow the pathway of mourning are promised the destination of comfort.

In “Mockers and Mourners,” Pastor Tim Taylor from Crosstown Alliance Church (Shinglehouse, PA Campus Pastor) looks at two different groups that witnessed Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem and his crucifixion; the Mockers and the Mourners. There are still mockers and mourners today; which are you? Do you mock the one who paid for sin or do you mourn your sin because of who paid for it?

Scripture in this sermon: Matthew 21:8, Luke 19:41-44, Matthew 27:27-56, Revelation 19:16, Genesis 3:17-18, Matthew 7:21Matthew 5:4-10

Quotes in this sermon:

  • "Being thus clad in a scarlet, or purple robe, or both; and having a crown of thorns on his head, and a reed instead of a scepter in his hand, they carry on the mockery still further, and bend the knee to him, as to a prince just come to his throne, and salute as such; and in a mock way, wish him long life and prosperity: thus deriding him in his kingly office, as all such do, who call him Lord, Lord, but disregard his commands." - biblestudytools.com
  • "The only way to get an accurate view of sin is to get close to the one who gave His life to pay for your sin, it wasn't cheap." - Pastor Stu Burton
  • "What an interesting statement and how true it is. He saved others. In fact, the priest said two things about Him. For of all in verse 42, He saved others, and in verse 43, He trusted in God. What a testimony concerning Jesus. He saved others and he trusted in God. With that testimony that the high priest made against Jesus, he was really condemning himself. We are condemning a man who saved others and trusted in God. He saved others. Himself He cannot save. How true that is. If He saved Himself, He could not save others. It was only by not saving Himself that He was able to save you." - Chuck Smith
  • "You can miss heaven by 18 inches, that's the average distance from the head to the heart."
  • "When you understand how much you've been forgiven by the grace of God and how He has changed your life, and that you wouldn't be the same without Jesus coming into your life, the only reasonable response is to fall at the feet of Jesus and to weep and be broken over your sin." - Pastor Jeremy Gorham
