Jillian Alexander is a solicitor, entrepreneur, and founder of the Unbound Programme - a Manchester-based organisation supporting survivors of modern slavery. Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, she came to the UK to pursue a master's in law, and what started as volunteering with the Salvation Army interviewing victims became a mission she couldn't walk away from.
In this wide-ranging conversation we cover a lot of ground. We talk about what modern slavery actually looks like in 2026 - not chains and cages, but debt bondage, domestic servitude, forced labour, and exploitation hiding in plain sight on your street, in your city, possibly closer than you think. We get into the stories behind the statistics, the gap between escape and true freedom, and the framework Jillian built to help survivors reclaim their independence and take back ownership of their lives.
We also talk about her own journey - a career that took her through unexpected turns, and how every chapter led her exactly where she needed to be.A thought-provoking conversation that will hopefully give you some perspective on an issue that can generally be overlooked.
