Australian developer Mervac has launched a trial of modular home construction in Cobbity, south-west Sydney, where an entire five-bedroom house can be assembled in hours using factory-built modules transported and lifted into place by cranes. The modular homes currently cost approximately $650,000, about 10% more than traditional builds, but offer significant advantages including 60% waste reduction through precision manufacturing. New legislation has been introduced to streamline approval processes and make modular construction comparable to traditional building methods.
