So, he invented the Golden Fleece awards. Each month he would call out something silly that the government was spending money on. Things like a $3,000 study to determine if people in the military should carry umbrellas. Or spending $103,000 to watch a fish get drunk. There are a lot of bizarre studies out there that Proxmire gave Golden Fleece awards to. But was he wrong to call out these studies?
