Moissanite facts : Although Moissanite is lower on the scale than a diamond at 9 to 9.5, moissanites are still durable. The only minerals that scratch a Moissanite are those equal or higher on the scale — namely, diamonds and other Moissanites. Also  Moissanite has a high refractive index 2.65 as opposed to diamonds' 2.42. Moissanite is extremely hard (9.25-9.5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness), but it isn't indestructible. Moissanite resists chipping and breaking better than diamond. Diamond, when struck against something hard, can sheer off in the direction of its crystal growth (this is called “cleaving”) Still, Moissanite like diamonds are considered a 'forever' stone, which can last for generations.
