Momin is a creative force to be reckoned with. He is a connector, an operator, a musician, and a really fun dude. I wanted him on this podcast to understand how you go from no coding to writing smart contracts in three months, why on earth he decided to create a music festival in fuck-all Texas, and more insight into how we should raise money for Stoa.
"How to go from No-code to writing smart contracts in 3 months."
- Have a strong "why." Look, it's a fucking cliche, but it's also true like many. Mo saw that software was eating the world. He knew he didn't want to be an appetizer, so he set out to learn more.
- Find your Yoda - Mo met his co-founder Neil who showed him what was possible when combining creativity and coding. Neil also offered up a challenge CTND
- Mo realized that he wanted to build something with Neil. To join, Neil said, go write a smart contract.
- Mo now had a deep why and a challenge to overcome. But, like any hero on a journey, the story was beginning.
- He took a three-month coding boot-camp course that taught him a bunch of useless stuff, but the valuable thing it gave him was an understanding of logic.
- Use the terminal - try and do everything you normally do, but from the terminal.
- Find a problem you want to solve and solve it.
"How to understand risk as we move into a more volatile world."
"In crypto, you need to adjust your mindset. First, you have to look at the worst thing that can happen. Then, multiply it by ten and assume that it will happen 4x per year."
"Smart people with data, make smart decisions" - Mo.
"People don't understand how difficult it is to translate data off the blockchain. Understanding, consuming, and processing data from the blockchain is not as easy as it sounds because you have to rely on a human being to translate it for you before consuming it. That's why we're making Credmark. The way we solve it is open source.
"Understanding money gives you an understanding of human behavior" - Mo.
