MOMocrats MOMochat: Marriage Equality & the Supremes

Listen Later

It's Marriage Equality week in Washington: Yesterday, the US Supreme Court heard the case for and against California's Proposition 8, which made marriage illegal between same-sex couples (after couples had already been awarded the right to marry). Today, they hear arguments for and against DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, signed into law by President Clinton in 1996. Clinton has disavowed the law, as has Bob Barr, the Republican Congressman who authored it in the first place. And all of this occurs during a tsunami of public opinion indicating that the nation is ready for marriage equality.
MOMocrats legal expert Jessica Mason Pieklo joins Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills for this week's  political discussion from the progressive POV. Produced by Engender Media Group.
