Monday, 27 October 2025; Monday of the 30th Week in Ordinary Time (Year C, Green).
Readings:
•First Reading: Romans 8:12–17.
•
•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 67(68):2,4,6–7,20–21 – “This God of ours is a God who saves.”
•
•Gospel: Luke 13:10–17.
Introduction
Today’s readings remind us that life in the Spirit brings freedom and dignity. Saint Paul declares that we are children of God, heirs with Christ, and not slaves to fear. In the Gospel, Jesus heals a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years, revealing that God’s love always seeks to set us free physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Main Point: “Christ Sets Us Free to Stand Upright in God’s Love.” (Luke 13:12–13)
When Jesus saw the bent woman, He called her and said, “Woman, you are rid of your infirmity.” Immediately she stood upright and glorified God.
Her physical healing is also a symbol of spiritual liberation from sin, guilt, oppression, and fear. Many of us may not be bent in body, but we are often bent in spirit by worry, shame, resentment, or self-doubt. Jesus desires to lift us up, to make us stand tall again as sons and daughters of the Father.
The synagogue leader focused on rules, but Jesus focused on relationship and compassion. God’s law is never meant to imprison, but to lead to love. When we act with mercy, we reveal the true face of God.
Concrete Example
Think of someone burdened by guilt or regret. A kind word, forgiveness, or patient listening can lift that person’s spirit just as Jesus lifted the woman. Sometimes, freeing others begins with a small act of empathy.
The Way Forward
•Let Jesus heal what keeps you “bent” unforgiveness, fear, or spiritual fatigue.
•Be a channel of liberation: help others find joy, hope, and confidence in God’s love.
•Live each day upright not in pride, but in gratitude as a beloved child of God.
Summary
Main Point: Christ sets us free to stand upright in God’s love. Verse: “Woman, you are rid of your infirmity.” (Luke 13:12)
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you saw the suffering woman and set her free. Look upon me today heal what keeps me bound, lift me to stand upright in your love, and help me bring your freedom to others. Amen.
