"I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; *
I will tell of all your marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in you; *
I will sing to your Name, O Most High." Psalm 9:1-2 (NRSV)
This evening's readings include Matthew's recounting of the geneology of Jesus, from Abraham, through Joseph and Mary. This painstaking passage establishes from the very beginning of the New Testament that Christ and his church are heirs with the children of Israel to the covenant made all those centuries ago. We will be God's people, and he will be our God.
