The small Kasilof Historical Museum recently acquired two maritime navigation lanterns from the Smithsonian Institution. The oil-burning beacons operated on the shore of Cook Inlet for over thirty years, aiding navigation into the Kasilof River. KDLL’s Hunter Morrison spoke with historical association members about the acquisition, and its value locally; and a recent report to Congress on gaps in law enforcement response to cases of missing and murdered Native people had a special chapter just on Alaska.
