  • Why personal insurance is important with Rick Foster

Most of us insure our house, car, contents and even our phones. But what about our ability to earn an income?

In this deeply personal episode of Money & a Good Life, Tribeca Financial’s Rachael Holder and Ryan Watson sit down with longtime Tribeca client, writer and men’s mental health advocate Rick Foster to explore what happens when your health unexpectedly affects your ability to work.

Rick spent years building creative agency Tank alongside his wife and business partners. As the business grew, so did the pressure. Eventually, severe anxiety left him unable to continue working in the same capacity.

What followed was not only a mental health recovery journey, but a real-world example of why financial protection can matter long before you think you’ll ever need it.

Rick shares how income protection insurance, TPD insurance and key person insurance helped provide financial security for himself, his family and his business while he stepped away to focus on his health. He also reflects on the importance of having financial advisers advocating for him throughout a difficult and sometimes complex insurance claims process.

The conversation also explores the strong connection between financial wellbeing and mental health, the pressures many business owners place on themselves, and why asking for help can be an act of strength rather than weakness.

Rick’s recovery eventually brought him back to his love of writing and inspired him to create the children’s picture book Why Worry Wally, designed to help children understand that worries are normal and give them practical ways to talk about and manage them.

    In this episode:

    • Why personal insurance can be important for business owners and families
    • Rick’s experience with anxiety, burnout and stepping away from work
    • How income protection supported his recovery
    • The role of TPD and key person insurance
    • Why having an adviser advocate during an insurance claim can make a difference
    • The connection between financial stress and mental wellbeing
    • Why men can find it difficult to speak openly about mental health
    • Recognising the signs of anxiety before they become overwhelming
    • Finding balance, purpose and a healthier relationship with work
    • How Rick created Why Worry Wally to help children talk about anxiety and worries
    • What “a good life” means to Rick today

Rick’s experience is a powerful reminder that good financial advice is not only about investments, numbers or retirement planning. Sometimes, it is about putting protections in place that allow you to focus on your health, your family and your future when life does not go to plan.

If you own a business, have a family relying on your income, or simply haven’t reviewed your personal insurance for some time, this episode offers an important perspective on the value of planning ahead.

  • Why art is for everyone with Andy Dinan

    Art galleries can feel intimidating.

White rooms full of expensive things. Quiet. Full of breakable things. A space that seems to signal: "You probably don't belong here."

But what if that feeling is completely wrong?

In this episode of Money & a Good Life, Steph and Ryan sit down with Andy Dinan—founder of MARS Gallery and ADA Art Consulting, and someone who's championed emerging and mid-career Australian artists for more than 20 years through over 700 exhibitions.

Andy believes art is for everyone. That collecting doesn't require a fortune. And that buying something you love might actually be one of the most rewarding ways you can spend money.

She also started one of Melbourne's best-known galleries despite never having worked in a gallery before—which is quite the origin story.

    What we talk about:

    • How Andy went from pushing a pram into a gallery to opening her own.
    • Why so many people feel intimidated by galleries and the art world.
    • Why collecting art isn't just for wealthy people.
    • The value of buying art you genuinely love.
    • Why Andy encourages people to look for a long time before buying anything.
    • Whether art should be viewed as an investment.
    • The role art can play in shaping communities and public spaces.
    • Why Andy believes philanthropy should be accessible to everyone, regardless of what they can afford to give.

Whether you've been collecting for years or have never set foot in a gallery, this conversation is a reminder that art isn't about expertise or status. Sometimes it's simply about finding something you love and bringing it into your life.

  • Creating an intentional life with Angela Ceberano

Most of us grow up believing that if we work hard enough, plan carefully enough and want something badly enough, we'll eventually get there.

But life doesn't always follow the plan.

In this episode of Money & a Good Life, Angela Ceberano shares the story behind her success in business, her IVF journey, and how both experiences changed the way she thinks about ambition, happiness and what truly matters. After building one of Australia's leading independent PR agencies and enduring 20 rounds of IVF over almost a decade, Angela has learned that some of life's biggest lessons come from the things we can't control.

    We talk about:

    • Building a successful business from the ground up.
    • The hidden cost of success and the sacrifices that often come with it.
    • What nearly a decade of IVF taught Angela about resilience and uncertainty.
    • Why sharing her fertility journey publicly became so important.
    • The emotional and financial realities of IVF.
    • How becoming a mother changed her definition of success.
    • What intentional living looks like in practice and why rest is part of the work.

This is a conversation about perseverance, perspective and learning to define success on your own terms, even when life takes you somewhere you never expected to go.

  • What families pass on, beyond money with Damon Kitney

    Every family has stories.

Some get passed down through generations. Others are forgotten over time. But whether we realise it or not, those stories can shape the way we think about money, success, work, family and what's possible for our future.

In this episode of Money & a Good Life, we sit down with Damon Kitney, journalist, author and storyteller, who has spent decades documenting some of Australia's most successful families. Through those conversations, he's discovered that while passing on wealth is important, passing on values, purpose and family stories can be even more powerful.

    We talk about:

    • Why family stories matter more than many people realise.
    • The role stories play in shaping beliefs about money, work and success.
    • What Damon has learned from interviewing some of Australia's most successful families.
    • Why passing on values can be harder than passing on wealth.
    • How family history can contribute to a sense of identity and belonging.
    • The challenges families face when navigating wealth, succession and legacy.
    • Why preserving stories may be one of the most important gifts we leave future generations.

Whether your family story spans generations or starts with you, this conversation is a reminder that the things we pass on aren't always financial. Sometimes the stories themselves become part of our legacy.

  • Retire with purpose with Kim & Prue Watty

Most people spend decades planning financially for retirement.

    But what about everything else?

The routines that shape your days. The sense of purpose that comes from your work. The connections, structure and identity you've built over a lifetime.

In this episode of Money & a Good Life, we sit down with Prue and Dr Kim Watty, co-founders of The Main Act, to explore what happens when people retire without thinking about what comes next.

Drawing on both personal experience and years of research, they share why creating a fulfilling retirement requires more than financial preparation, and how purpose, connection and community can play just as important a role.

    We talk about:

    • Why retirement can be more challenging than many people expect.
    • The loss of structure, identity and purpose that often comes with leaving work.
    • Why financial preparedness is only one part of a successful retirement.
    • The importance of thinking about what you want your next chapter to look like.
    • The unique transitions many women experience throughout life and retirement.
    • Why community, creativity, contribution and connection matter so much.
    • How to move from simply retiring from something to retiring towards something.

Whether retirement is right around the corner or still years away, this conversation is a reminder that a good retirement isn't just about having enough money. It's also about creating a life you're excited to wake up to.

  • Why estate planning matters more than you think with Susan Bonnici

Estate planning is one of those things we all know we should do… but many of us keep putting it off.

The problem? When estate planning goes wrong, the consequences can be deeply personal.

Families stop speaking. Loved ones are left to make difficult decisions without guidance. Vulnerable people can be left unprotected. And disputes that could have been avoided end up costing families emotionally and financially.

In this episode of Money and a Good Life, we sit down with Susan Bonnici, Principal Estate Planning Lawyer at Aitken Partners, to unpack what estate planning really involves — and why it's about so much more than simply deciding who gets what.

Susan has spent her entire legal career helping families navigate everything from straightforward Wills to highly complex estate planning arrangements. As both a lawyer and mother of a child with a disability, she's seen firsthand the importance of planning ahead, particularly for families caring for vulnerable loved ones.

We explore the difference between estate and non-estate assets, why Wills are increasingly being challenged, and the practical steps families can take now to reduce conflict and create certainty for the people they care about most.

This conversation is a timely reminder that estate planning isn't really about death — it's about protecting the people you love.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • Why estate planning is about much more than "who gets what"
    • The role family dynamics play in estate planning
    • Protecting vulnerable family members and children with disabilities
    • The difference between estate and non-estate assets
    • Common mistakes people make with Wills and superannuation
    • Why more Wills are being contested — and how to reduce the risk
    • Proposed changes to trust taxation and what they may mean
    • Key terms every adult should understand, including probate and powers of attorney
    • The importance of planning before a crisis occurs

  • Goals, plans and everything in between with Mike Larkan

We all like to think life follows a bit of a plan.

You build something over time. You find your rhythm. You get comfortable with where things are heading. And then, sometimes, life shifts. Not always in a dramatic way, but enough to make you rethink what comes next.

In this episode, Mike Larkan shares the story behind a life that’s been anything but linear. From decades in television to building something new, his experience is less about a single turning point and more about how everything adds up over time.

    We talk about:

    • How short-term decisions shape the bigger picture
    • The balance between planning ahead and living in the moment
    • What happens when your identity is tied to your work
    • How major life events can shift your perspective
    • What “enough” looks like  and how that can change over time
    • Why some of the most important decisions aren’t purely financial

It’s a conversation about perspective, adaptability and the long game, not just in money, but in life.

  • What happens when you hire a private investigator with Richard James

When you think of a private investigator, you probably picture stakeouts, disguises and scenes straight out of a crime drama.

The reality is far less glamorous, and far more interesting.

In this episode of Money and a Good Life, we sit down with Richard James, Director and Principal Investigator of RIVICA Investigations & Covert Solutions. With more than 30 years of experience across UK law enforcement, Australian anti-corruption agencies and private investigations, Richard has seen it all.

We explore what private investigators actually do, when people seek their help, and how evidence is gathered legally and ethically. Richard shares insights into everything from workplace fraud and surveillance to digital privacy, counter-surveillance and the realities of modern investigations.

Along the way, we discuss what happens when evidence is obtained unlawfully, the emotional challenges clients face when seeking answers, and what decades of investigating human behaviour has taught Richard about trust.

Whether you're curious about the profession, concerned about privacy, or simply fascinated by human nature, this conversation offers a rare glimpse into a world most of us only see on television.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • What private investigators really do (and what TV gets wrong)
    • The types of cases that lead people to hire an investigator
    • Why ethics and legality are critical in investigations
    • Workers' compensation fraud and workplace investigations
    • Digital privacy, mobile phones and encrypted messaging apps
    • Counter-surveillance and signs someone may be monitoring you
    • What makes a great investigator
    • Lessons about trust, deception and human behaviour
    • What to do if you suspect something isn't right
