When people talk about things that can distract us from our walk with God, money is always on the list. We all need money to live in this world; it is the currency that allows us to purchase food, pay bills, and hopefully save up for retirement. Having enough money is certainly a blessing that God enjoys giving. But the belief that money is security can also be a big distraction from God.

The Bible says in Matthew 6:19, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but [instead] lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. The Holy Scriptures also promise, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and He will give you everything you need.”

Ask yourself, are you serving God or serving money? I’m not saying to quit your job and give up money altogether, but I am saying that God calls us to trust, first and foremost, in Him. And He always comes through for us!This is Luis Palau.
