The 18th - 24th November is 'Safer Gambling Week' - A cross-industry initiative to promote safer gambling in the UK & Ireland
Gambling can have a huge effect on your finances as our guest Ben found out first hand. Ben's gambling started small before spiralling out of control and eventually culminated in a prison sentence after stealing from his employer to fund his addiction.
Ben now supports people who are suffering with similar issues. His work includes ‘Time Out’ which is a gambling recovery service in Nottingham, through ‘Double Impact’ and he co-hosts ‘Hold or Fold’, a gambling focussed podcast also produced by the ‘Prison Radio Association’

When you first land in prison, contacting your bank and creditors may well be towards the bottom of your list of priorities. However, once you’re a bit more settled you can make life easier on yourself and reduce stress by ensuring your bank is aware of your current circumstances. This could stop your accounts going dormant, reduce charges/interest and make it more likely that you have banking in place for your release.
On this episode, Barry from the brilliant organisation ‘Ingeus’ is here to remind us what steps you could take whether you’re at the start, middle or coming to the end of your sentence

We have mentioned benefit checkers on Money Mondays in the past and to tell us a bit more about what they are and how they work is David from the amazing organisation 'Turn2us'
We want to ensure that the money YOU’RE entitled to doesn’t make up the £30 BILLION that goes unclaimed every year.
David has loads of great info on how to make the most of benefit checkers, what grants you could be eligible for and how your family could get more support while you’re in prison
Plus! The PIP helper David alludes to is now LIVE! The link for that is below

Money Mondays on a…….Tuesday!? What is this sorcery??
Well, it just so happens that National Prison Radio has another podcast that drops on a Tuesday too and we’d love to tell you all about it
‘Outside In’ is a brand new podcast hosted by people who learnt their trade working with National Prison Radio in HMP Brixton. They share the inspirational stories of people who have links with the Criminal Justice System as well as speaking to the organisations that can help you on release.
The ‘Outside in’ team recently caught up with Ian who had used the service of Catch 22, a brilliant organisation that we featured right here on Episode 26 of Money Mondays. We thought we’d take this opportunity to introduce you to Nico, Richie & Louis from the ‘Outside In’ team while reminding you of the excellent work of Catch 22. You can listen to ‘Outside In’ wherever you get your podcasts

Zak & Emma have talked about debt many times on Money Mondays but this has usually centred around debts you can accumulate outside of prison. On this episode they are looking at what happens if you fall in to debt while you’re in prison
Zak explains how easy it can be to have your prison debts spiral out of control, addressing the potential dangers of this and also looks at ways to avoid falling into this situation and what to do if it happens to you

Prison and poverty are often interlinked. On this episode we are investigating those links - Why are you more likely to end up in Prison if you're from a deprived area and what can be done about the situation?
Joining us to give us some more context to this is Morgan from the amazing organisation, the 'Joseph Rowntree Foundation' - Morgan gives us some chastening statitics, tells us why things are the way they are and explores some potential solutions to the problem.

This coming Thursday (October 10th) is World Homeless Day so Zak & Emma are having a chat about the scale of the problem, the alarming statistics and what can be done to fix the issue.
They are joined by Matt Gannon from Homelessness Impact who have been conducting extensive research in this field and investigating the potential solutions. During a wide ranging conversation, Zak & Emma also talk about how difficult it can be to get a job with a criminal record and the steps Zak took in order to gain stable employment

Jazz Singh has an incredible story and he's here to share some of it on Money Mondays
Having worked in finance before finding himself in prison in later life, Jazz used his experience and knowledge to help others inside and imagine a better life for himself.
Now, Jazz has that better life, and has established 'EmpowerAbility' - An organisation which seeks to support humans inside and outside of their cells and once through the gate with greater mind management tools.
Jazz talks about some of the skills he learned and honed while in prison and how he was able to use his existing experience to help him through his time inside

There really is a 'Day' for everything and today is 'International Identification Day' (16th September) so Emma & Zak are looking at ways to sort out your ID while you’re in prison.
To help them, they’ve invited back Paul Retout from the Tax Academy (And frequent Inside Time contributor) to look at how it might be possible to source a birth certificate, passport or driving licence while you’re inside. Spoiler: It’s not going to be easy but it IS possible
Having some form of valid ID is really important as it can help you secure a bank account, employment and it will even allow you to vote!
